06.30-08.15: An initially unpromising visit, with banks of sea fog draped round the point, was rewarded with my first patch record of Short-eared Owl. It was sitting in the path and later flew back over my head; doubtless a migrant disoriented by the weather (BirdTrack shows above-average numbers around at the moment). Kittiwakes calling in the fog offshore and 185 auks headed E, up-channel, when the fog lifted for a while. Still a trickle of E-bound Lesser Black-backed Gull migration and I could hear (but not see many) hirundines flying overhead, presumably across the top of the fog. No sign of grounded passerine migrants; only territorial Chiffchaffs and Whitethroats.
