A great turn out for the launch of the Devon Bird Atlas at Stover Country Park today, nice to put some faces to the birding names that we see, a big thank you to the organisers and those involved at today’s very worthwhile event and the publication itself is really excellent.
From the hide another birder kindly pointed out the location of at least four Snipe that were tucked into the reeds, looking at my images I can find seven birds, three Goosander, Little Grebe, Great Crested Grebe, five Tufted Duck, Mallard, Heron, Cormorant, Coot, Moorhen a single Lesser Black Backed Gull dropped in to join at least 55 Black Headed Gulls and the odd Herring Gull on the lake.
Good numbers of Long Tailed Tits showing all around the park, two Mute Swan, very vocal Jays, small bird species included Robin, Dunnock, Great, Blue and Marsh Tits, Nuthatch, Siskins, good numbers of Chaffinch. (One BTO ringed Marsh Tit ring number begining with "D8")
Only down side was the weather !!
Back home in South Brent, Siskin showing well on the feeders, Pied Wagtail numbers on the increase and the forth Polecat/Ferret to find itself in one of my life catchers, which becomes even more interesting if you saw the article on the news last evening about the spread of the wild native Polecat into Devon.
