A visit to the hide at Stover just after first light this morning could be described as very peaceful, 19 species seen from the hide including Jay, Pochard (3), Great Crested Grebe (2), Little Grebe, Heron, Lesser Black Back Gull and Goldcrest (2)
Occombe Farm, Paignton before it got busy was well worth a visit, Green Woodpecker, Goldcrest, Treecreeper, Nuthatch, Bullfinch, Blackcap, Raven (3) large flocks of both Redwing and Goldfinch.
Back at home in South Brent the day had started with a Tawny owl calling just after 7am. In the early afternoon a huntingfirst year male Sparrow hawk showed and came in on two occasions making a visit to the feeders a hazardous prospect, making a kill in incredible fashion on the second visit, seemingly too fast to be possible.
Three Buzzards circling, Greater Spotted Woodpecker, Redwings, Siskin, a high flying Canadian Goose, first Starlings of the Christmas season and a BTO ringed Blue Tit.
