A good walk from Barnstaple to Ashford this morning, nice to meet others from the Taw/Torridge Devon Birds membership. All the usual species on the higher estuary. Evening walk with the dog 3.30 - 4.30pm along the Caen river bank and Horsey Island gave close views of a Kingfisher. a hunting Short Eared Owl and a hunting Barn Owl in the same place over the Braunton end of the Chivenor air field. Interesting to see how similar their flight pattern and hunting technique is. Then a second Barn Owl over Horsey Island. Large numbers of Lapwing and Golden Plover in the air over the estuary in the evening sun. All the usuals also present.
